Prerequisite: Placement determined by a college ready assessment score in reading Corequisite: none In this class, students will explore the reciprocal relationship between information technology and society through group discussion, research, and writing. It will begin by situating information technology within key sociological theories of technological development, using them as lenses to explore information technology’s role as motivator of societal change throughout history. Students will then critically evaluate the ethical, political, and legal dimensions of current and emergent trends in information technology. Topics covered will include: literacy and information literacy, digital divides, social media, privacy and anonymity, the politics of gaming, and many more. Transfer Curriculum Goal(s): 1, 9
