This course focuses on the structure and functions of major classes of intracellular macromolecules with special focus on protein structure and function; the metabolic pathways for the synthesis, degradation, and interconversion of carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins; energy use and capture, and the molecular mechanisms which control and direct intracellular metabolic processes; genetic information storage and retrieval, and concepts and theories of molecular evolution.
