This course provides a thorough introduction to the juvenile justice system. The course addresses the history and philosophy of juvenile law and delinquency; the role of police in handling juvenile offenders and preventing and repressing delinquency; the ability of the police and juvenile justice system to adapt to changing youth criminal patterns; techniques and procedures involved in apprehending young offenders and prosecuting juvenile cases; and the relationship between community agencies, the police, and juvenile justice resources, with special emphasis on California.
