ENGL 2193 — Introduction to Creative Nonfiction

This course engages in literary study of the nonfiction genre. In particular, it seeks to answer the question: what is creative nonfiction as we understand it in the literary canon? Through a survey of key works across history, voices, styles, and forms the course will explore this genre's defining characteristics, analyze its contributions in craft, popular publishing, and scholarship. It will investigate the ways truth can be transformed by the tools of craft to connect the personal experience to the global, thus examining what, why, and how agentive authorship is contextualized amid the influences and realities of the world at large.
