SPA 099 - Spanish in Daily Life II SPA 099 - Spanish in Daily Life II Description: Maintains an active focus on basic daily interactions with Spanish speakers in the US, began in SPA098 and places even more emphasis on simple conversational language constructions and cultural components. Intended for the most novice of beginning Spanish students to practice their new conversationally oriented skills in a workshop-type learning environment with multiple opportunities for conversational language practice. Conversations will continue to focus on practical language use in real-world contexts, and to highlight entry-level cultural components of Spanish users living in the United States. Designed to provide improvement in cultural and linguistic competence, to build bilingualism and biculturalism through a conversational approach, and preparation for more systematic language study in SPA101. Use formulaic expressions. Recognize common hand gestures used by native speakers. Express likes and dislikes. Create descriptive utterances using adjectives. Distinguish between uses of ser and estar. Employ tener expressions in conversation. Narrate in the present tense using select verbs to express basic needs. Formulate questions and responses using interrogatives. Read in Spanish. Converse in Spanish during workshops. Use lexical components needed for practical language use situations. Identify multiple components of Spanish speaking culture in the US.
