ELT221 — Communication Systems and Circuits
ELT 221 - Communication Systems and Circuits ELT 221 - Communication Systems and Circuits Description: Theory and principles of modern electronic communication systems. Topics include: electromagnetism, functional blocks of communications systems, amplitude modulation (AM) transmission and reception, superheterodyne receivers, systems for frequency synthesis, frequency modulation (FM) transmission and reception, transmission lines, antennas and wave propogation, and fiber optics. Emphasis on analysis and troubleshooting of electronic communication systems and circuits to the component level. (1, 7) Draw a block diagram for a standard communication system, and describe each block and the signals between blocks. (2, 8) Analyze communications signals including time, frequency and spectrum analysis. Build, analyze, and troubleshoot AM circuits and systems. (3, 4, 8) Build, analyze, and troubleshoot a complete superheterodyne receiver. (4, 8) Compare and contrast methods for frequency synthesis including phase locked loops, direct digital synthesis, and combination systems. Build, analyze, and troubleshoot FM circuits and systems. (5, 6, 8) Troubleshoot transmission lines, antenna systems, and fiber optics circuits. (7, 8) Formulate and execute a troubleshooting plan for a combination AM/FM receiver.
