EMS547 — Field Internship
1 credits The Capstone/Field Internship provides the student with an accessibility/opportunity to serve as team leader in a variety of pre-hospital, advanced life support emergency situations. This course provides an experience for the student to enhance their knowledge as an entry-level paramedic under the mentoring of experienced preceptors. To successfully complete this course, students must demonstrate competency in the psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) domains for patients of all ages and pathologies adhering to the Iowa Paramedic Scope of Practice. The student must document patient contacts/field experiences and record a minimum of 20 team leads utilizing patient assessment, differential diagnosing, and treatment of patients in various ages and pathologies. Permission to begin this capstone class requires the student having all formative clinical competencies completed and documented. Instructor consent is required.
