Situates the artistic production of modern Africa (1800-present) within a socio-cultural framework, taking into consideration the role of the artist, the methods of production, the relationship between form and function, and the impact of geopolitical shifts (including intercontinental trade, colonialization, and globalization) on the artistic practice.
