GCHM5312 — Advanced Biochemistry
This is a one semester introductory Biochemistry course designed for graduate students in Secondary Science Education. No prior Biochemistry background is required. Students are introduced to basic biochemical concepts including protein, carbohydrate, lipid and nucleic acid structure, enzymes, carbohydrate metabolism, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid and amino acid metabolism. The purpose of the course is to equip teachers with the knowledge required to handle Biochemistry related topics in high school chemistry and biology courses. Students gain teaching experience in this course by preparing lectures in Biochemistry related topics. Lecture: Lecture: 3 hours per week.
