PEDI 8437V — Newborn Nursery

1 credits · 1 hours

The Newborn Nursery 4th year elective has been designed to expose and introduce the future pediatric or family medicine resident to newborn medicine and physiology in the UAMS well-baby nursery and neonatal intensive care unit. The experience expands on the common neonatal pathology seen during the 3rd year Pediatric Clerkship. Students work closely with a neonatal hospitalist and will observe multi-specialty huddle, attend deliveries, learn about procedures common to newborn care, understand the long-term longitudinal care for premature neonates by participating in daily rounds, and gain an appreciation of the complex follow-up needs of high risk neonates.
