NURS 323 — Mental & Community Health
This course will focus on the practical nurses’ responsibility in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating measures to encourage mental awareness and to utilize therapeutic nursing intervention when care for patients/clients exhibiting maladaptive behavior or the mentally ill patient/client. The introductory phase of the course includes basic information on the theories of psychological development and behavioral patterns in a healthy person as well as in the ill person. The relationship of growth and development to behavior as well as social and cultural influences will be explored. Behavioral characteristics, diagnostic measures, treatment modalities, and nursing interventions for individuals displaying metal illness behaviors will be considered during the second phase.
