ART 140 — Two-Dimensional Design

3 credits · 3 hours

provides an introduction to the basic two-dimensional elements of fine art and design: line, shape, value, texture, space, and color. Through a series of projects, students will manipulate these elements to learn the principles of two-dimensional design: balance, proportion, emphasis, movement, repetition, rhythm, and unity. Students will strengthen their critical skills by analyzing and evaluating contemporary work as well as compositions from the Modernist era of art history and before. (Credit is only allowed for either ART 140 or ART 107 and ART 108.) Prerequisites: Reading Proficiency
