BHS 200 — Introduction to Behavioral Health Support

Credit Hours: 3 Prerequisites: None. This course introduces students to the behavioral healthcare profession and the programs and services offered by Community Behavioral Health Centers. Emphasis will be placed on the skills and ethical considerations needed to work with a diverse client population. Topics will include the most prevalent mental health diagnosis, the recovery/resiliency model, family systems, as well as additional philosophies used in the behavioral health support professional role. In addition, students will discuss relevant ethical and legal principles. Offered Fall, Spring, and Summer.
