Topics include structure, bonding, molecular properties, reactivity and nomenclature of alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, and ethers; stereochemistry, halo alkanes, reaction mechanisms, nucleophilic substitution and elimination, mass spectrometry; IR, and NMR spectroscopy. Laboratory will be used to illustrate the basic green methods of preparation, separation, and identification of organic compounds as well as a discussion of traditional methods.
