This upper-division course focuses on advanced estimating methods for commercial and complex building projects, emphasizing quantity-based, assemblies-based, and conceptual estimating techniques used during pre-construction. Students synthesize construction documents, specifications, historical cost data, and production information to develop defensible, auditable cost estimates across multiple project phases. The course emphasizes scope definition, estimating strategy selection, risk and contingency modeling, indirect cost development, escalation, and estimate validation.
