This literature course is a study in the genre known as Young Adult Literature (YAL) Students will learn the history of the genre, tropes of the genre, and will be able to experience the many sub-genres that exist within YAL Currently, YAL is read by both adults and young adults and has become known as cross-over literature As such, this class will familiarize students with many YAL texts, and the readers who enjoy them, and also challenge them in the critical analysis of a genre that is read (for the most part) by people forming their identities This course is especially helpful for students looking to become secondary teachers
