PSYC26 — Co-Occurring Disorders: Treatment and Management

Units: 3 Hours: 54 hours LEC Grade Options: Letter Grade Term Typically Every term This course is designed to explore and gain an understanding of people with mental health symptoms in more than one category. It introduces students to various disorders from infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Concepts, definitions, and features of dual diagnosis/co-occurring disorder will be explored. Students will examine the use of the current DSM as a reference tool for understanding mental illness. Models for delivery of services to clients along with treatment modalities that focus on individual diagnoses with co-occurring disorders will be explored. Topics include but are not limited to substance and addiction related disorders, anxiety, adjustment, trauma, and sexual and gender identity disorders. (HBCU, CSU)
