ESL9086 — Noncredit Advanced College Listening/Speaking for Multilingual Students I

Units: 0 Hours: 54 hours LEC Grade Options: Pass/No Pass Advisories: ESL 9083 with a of “P.” Students are strongly advised to enroll concurrently in the ESL reading/writing course of the appropriate level ( ESL 9082 , ESL 9085 , ESL 9088 , or ESL 9059 ) based on placement exam scores and multiple measures. In addition, students are strongly advised to enroll concurrently in the ESL grammar course of the appropriate level ( ESL 9081 , ESL 9084 , ESL 9087 , or ESL 9089 ) based on placement exam scores and multiple measures. This noncredit course is designed to develop listening comprehension and oral proficiency of academic and professional English for the non-native speaker, at the advanced level. Listening focuses on note-taking and comprehension of spoken English in academic and professional situations, media, and discussion. Speaking focuses on fluency of English speech, proficiency in clarifying and restating, and strategies for facilitating discussion. Noncredit courses may be repeated.
