SOCI 1774 - Introduction to Corrections SOCI 1774 - Introduction to Corrections 3 Credits This is an introductory course designed to provide students with an overview of the problems and ethical dilemmas that face America’s correctional system. The institution of corrections is not only a study of our prison system but is, in fact, the study of a complex network of societal relationships and institutions. This course examines the history, present, and future of U.S. corrections. The role of penitentiaries, prisons, jails, and grass roots organizations is explored along with the concepts of punishment, rehabilitation, retribution, restoration and transformation. 3C/3/0/0 Prerequisite(s): READ 0721 or READ 0724 or EAPP 0860 with a grade of “C” or better, or appropriate assessment score Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) Goal Area(s): Goals 5 & 9
