Topics include clinical data collection, chairside procedures, oral anatomy, dental materials (preparation, manipulation, application), lab materials and procedures, patient education, infection control, occupational safety, legal issues, emergency management, and office procedures. The course also presents the theory and practice of legal Expanded Functions for dental assistants, including discussion, demonstration, and practical application of skills such as intra- and extra-oral exams, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, amalgam and composite polishing, provisional coverage, suture removal, cement removal, retraction cord placement, pit and fissure sealant placement, and tooth whitening.
