FIRE 1400 - Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations FIRE 1400 - Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations 3 Credit(s) This course provides responders with the knowledge and practical skills to recognize hazardous materials of incidents, protect life and property, and operate safely in support of a defensive response. Instruction is aligned with current Tennessee certification requirements and NFPA 470 hazardous materials responder competencies. Course content includes recognition and identification of hazardous materials; use of the Emergency Response Guidebook, initial scene size-up, isolation, denial of entry, scene control, responder safety, defensive response options, basic decontamination support, incident command support, operational communications, and strategies to protect responders, the public, the environment, and property.The course is designed to support Tennessee Hazardous Materials Awareness and Hazardous Materials Operations eligibility requirements and includes practical skills consistent with Tennessee State Fire Commission expectations.
