MDA135 — Clinical Coding, Billing, and Insurance

6 , 4 lecture periods 3 lab periods Introduction to the processes and procedures related to the International Classification of Diseases -10th Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) systems. Includes terminology, principles, and components of each system, codes for diseases and conditions using the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Also includes introduction to health insurance plans in an ambulatory care environment, principles of bookkeeping, billing, accounting, and banking. Recommendation: Completion of MDA 121 and MDA 124 before enrolling in this course. Also a minimum of 25 words per minute word processing skills.
