AEGS201 — Introduction to African American Studies

(H/SS/DSJ) Description: This course is an introduction to African American Studies. Students will examine how a revolutionary body of ideas emerged from African Americans and the broader African diaspora. An interrogation of ideas about “Negro,” “Black,” and “African American” identities and experiences will be explored in context. Emphasis is placed on the intellectual and creative contributions of a wide-spectrum of leaders, scholars, artists, and activists. Topics may include perspectives from history, literature, politics, activism, and media and pop culture. Prerequisite: AEGS 100 recommended 5 hours Lecture
