SOCI 2013 - General Sociology SOCI 2013 - General Sociology Description A general introduction to the basic concepts, theories, and perspectives of sociology. Topics include the nature of society and the foundations of social interaction and social life, including social groups, culture, social class, social institutions and social change. Emphasis is placed on current research in sociology, globalization, diversity and multiculturalism. Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of norms and values and their functions in society. Demonstrate familiarity with dimensions of inequality including race, class, and gender. Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of deviance from a sociological perspective. Differentiate between social institutions common to all societies. Respect and use critical thinking, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific approach to solve problem related to society and social processes. General Education
