NURS 9135 - Fundamentals of Nursing NURS 9135 - Fundamentals of Nursing Description This introductory course is a competency-based course that introduces the student to the nursing process, the roles of the Associate Degree nurse, nursing behaviors, needs theory, developmental theory, stress and adaptation, the environment, health-illness continuum and legal-ethical issues. Basic principles of pharmacology, nutrition and medication administration are also included. The focus is on technical skills to assist the client to meet biopsychosocial needs. The role of the Associate Degree nurse as direct care provider, utilizing communication skills is emphasized. Identify and provide knowledge and resources necessary to complete patient education regarding fundamental nursing concepts and basic nursing procedures. Exemplify professional behavior, accountability, responsibility, and use of basic interpersonal skills in the classroom and nursing laboratory. Explore and demonstrate effective communication in obtaining and conveying relevant information regarding fundamental nursing concepts, skills and the nursing process to faculty and classmates. Develop clinical reasoning and nursing judgment through the application of fundamental nursing knowledge in the classroom and nursing laboratory.
