GEOG 1013 - Introduction to Geography GEOG 1013 - Introduction to Geography Description This course is an introduction to the broad field of geography, covering both physical and cultural elements of geography. This course introduces students to the discipline of geography, its basic principles and major concepts, tools, techniques, and methodological approaches. Emphasis is on concepts relevant to understanding global, regional, and local issues. By the end of the semester, students will have a thorough understanding of geography as a discipline and importantly, why “geography matters”. Students successfully completing this course will: Describe the methods social scientists use to explore social and environmental phenomena. Employ analytical and interpretive analysis; and knowledge of major concepts, models and issues in the discipline of geography. Explain spatial relations and interactions of human societies and environments at local, regional and global scales. Analyze and evaluate scholarly writing within the discipline General Education
