CIED 1053 - Intro. To Education CIED 1053 - Intro. To Education Description This course integrates psychological, sociological and philosophical foundations of education with concurrent involvement in field experiences. Encourages prospective teachers to become reflective practitioners by emphasizing organization of school systems, planning and implementation of effective classroom environments, development of teaching styles and new directions in education. Includes a variety of field-based activities to learn the components of desired teaching behaviors. Extend their understanding of self as a learner and future teacher by comparing and contrasting how learners are alike and different; determining how these characteristics interface with the learning process; examining how needs and various factors of diversity affect today’s students and reflecting on their ability to respond to intellectual, physical, emotional, and ethical demands to best meet the learning needs of today’s diverse student population. Integrate their knowledge of self and students to the context of the school by defining various terms such as teaching, learning, and education, applying to specific examples; examining what students and teachers expect of schools, resulting in an expanded view of the relationship among self, students, and schools and the responsibilities of teachers, students, and schools.
