PN103 — Introduction to Pharmacology
An introduction to the principles of pharmacology including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, medication interactions and potential adverse medication reactions. Emphasis is placed on drug classifications and nursing care related to safe medication administration. Students will be introduced to common health problems and learn how medications integrate into the health care plan to promote health and well-being. Using pharmacologic principles, students will build the clinical judgment skills necessary to advocate for safe, patient-centered medication administration across the lifespan. Students will also learn to recognize and address potential barriers to medication compliance and optimal patient outcomes across diverse populations integrating concepts of patient communication, education, and social determinants of health.
