PSYC 1108 — Psychology of Death and Dying

We all die. Psychology offers an insightful exploration of death and dying by examining how different cultures, historical contexts, and personal experiences shape our understanding of this universal human experience using psychological perspectives. Students develop strategies to cope with death anxiety and grief. Students use critical thinking skills to engage with topics such as societal attitudes toward death, the experience of loss, and ethical dilemmas surrounding end-of-life decisions. We discuss cross-cultural practices related to funerals, caregiving, and grieving, as well as explore concepts like near-death experiences and beliefs about the afterlife.
