MUS 110 — Music Fundamentals

Introduction to the notation and fundamental theoretical elements of Western music, demonstrated through a variety of styles, past and current. Students will engage music through listening, reading, lecture, writing, and performance. Topics include music notation, pitch, rhythm, tonality, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, melody, harmony, and form, as well as linguistic, cognitive, and mathematical frameworks for understanding how music works.
