NRSG2200 — Pharmacology II
This course is a continuing introduction to basic pharmacology for a licensed practical nurse. Drugs are presented within the major drug classifications along with general drug actions, common adverse reaction/side effects, contraindication, precautions and interactions. The nursing process is used as a framework for care of the patient receiving drug therapy to promote an optimal response. Emphasis is placed on dosage calculation, safe administration, how to monitor and manage adverse reactions/side effects and patient teaching as it relates to the drug and the drug regimen. Major drug classifications include cancer, cardiac, respiratory, immune system, neurological, endocrine, and musculoskeletal medications.
