NRSG1200 — Pharmacology I

This didactic course is an introduction to basic pharmacology for a licensed practical nurse. Drugs are presented within the major drug classifications along with general drug actions, common adverse reaction/side effects, contraindication, precautions and interactions. The nursing process is used as a framework for care of the patient receiving drug therapy to promote an optimal response. Emphasis is placed on dosage calculation, safe administration, how to monitor and manage adverse reactions/side effects and patient teaching as it relates to the drug and the drug regimen. Major drug classifications include, pain, anti-infective, gastrointestinal and antidiabetic drugs.
