HMS- 20 — Medical Social Work
Description: An introduction to the principles of a career in social work and social sciences-based fields. This course spans the spectrum from early efforts in healthcare to contemporary healthcare policy reform. Provides a definition for social work practice in health care settings and develops the reader knowledge, skill and value base necessary for effective healthcare practice. Emphasis is on the importance of being attentive to the needs of both the patient and organization, ethical obligations and trends in healthcare policy. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade only)
