This course is an introduction to intercultural communication in contemporary, historical, and geographical contexts. A critical social/behavioral scientific approach is used to examine the influence of cultures, languages, and social patterns on how members of groups relate among themselves and with members of different ethnic and cultural groups. Students explore theories and practice of communication within and between cultures, develop communication competence in diverse cultural contexts, and develop a greater understanding of the role of power, privilege, history, globalization, discourse, and language.
