WELD 1221 — Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding

| Lecture The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the Shielded Metal Arc Welding process and related safety practices established by the American Welding Society. The student will become familiar with SMAW principles and techniques, the ANSI/AWS Z49.1 safety standard, metallurgy, electrical principles, filler metals, and the application of filler metals to all weld types in all positions. Welding terminology and typical job communications will be covered.
