LAWS1000 — Introduction to Legal Studies

4.5 Credits Students explore the US legal environment from a macroscopic and individual level. They learn how law germinates from public discourse to solve identified problems, how it is then formally enacted in the legislative process, enforced and administered by the executive branch, and interpreted by pursuit of legal remedies before the judiciary. Students investigate the roles individuals play in the legal arena and their own potential interactions in and with the legal system. They learn how to interact with others in the legal field, including use of interpersonal skills, working in teams, practicing effective communication skills, and utilizing problem-solving techniques. Students also create a career portfolio and are introduced to work expectations and job search strategies in the legal field.
