FIST1030 — Hazardous Materials Chemistry

3.0 Credits This course provides basic chemistry related to the categories of hazardous materials. This includes the problems of recognition, the reactivity issues, and health concerns encountered by firefighters. The curriculum focuses heavily on the identification and chemical composition of hazardous materials as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This course is written to the National Fire Academy (NFA) FESHE curriculum. This course prepares students for the Hazardous Materials Technician Certification issued by the state Fire Marshall.
