12.0 Credits The Paramedic Part 1 of 4 course is the first in a sequence of four courses that provides an introduction to Emergency Medical Care. It expands the knowledge of EMS systems, roles, responsibility, wellness, medical-legal and ethical issues are woven throughout parts 1 through 4 of this program. Part 1 builds knowledge of therapeutic communication, patient assessment, communication and documentation, and understanding of respiratory emergencies. The general principles of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, and IV access, and medical administration form the foundation of the four-part sequence. The focus of part 1 of 4 is the respiratory system, acid base balance, airway management, ventilation, and respiratory emergencies.
