ARTS2120 — Intermediate Painting
4.5 Credits Students expand their skills and knowledge of concepts learned in Painting. Emphasis is placed on expanding color mixing and paint manipulation skills with more focus on content. Exposure to mixed media and digital media drawing tools is encouraged but optional. Subject matter may include still life, spatial issues, the figure, and abstraction. This course creates a studio environment in which student painters can connect ideas from prior learning and problem-solve in ways that more closely resemble the methods of professional studio painters. Critiques and group discussions will address formal and conceptual decisions in paintings while emphasizing the importance of visual communication. Students are encouraged to seek personal solutions to painting problems and to develop a body of work throughout their time in the course. 5
