EDUC-1020 — School Age Programs

This course is specifically designed for individuals working with children and youth in grades K-12 outside of school hours. Programs may include School Age Care (SAC), group athletics, dance, drama, music, scouting, and other recreational programs. Students will learn the ten core knowledge content areas essential for designing and implementing high-quality out-of-school time (OST) programs, guided by the Michigan Out-of-School Time Standards of Quality (MOST). The Michigan Youth Development Associate (MI-YDA) program equips individuals with essential skills to support youth development in various settings. During the progression of this course, students will begin the certification process for the Michigan YDA credential. Within this study, students will examine the core components of the standards, including program design, staff development, family engagement, and continuous improvement practices. Students will complete 3 hours of observation in an Out-of-School Time program. (3 billable contact hrs)
