INTL37 — Intermediate Academic Support

5 credits This course, for non-native speakers of English who are international students, builds upon and reinforces the academic skills taught in INTL 40 and INTL 50 . This course focuses on developing more complex academic skills in grammar, writing, reading, and speaking. Make edits to grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure Use checklists for peer and self- editing in writing Read intermediate- level texts and identify topic sentences, main ideas, and details Apply reading strategies (context, dictionary usage, etc.) to determine meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary Draw conclusions, make inferences, and make predictions in intermediate-level discourse in a variety of contexts (text, conversations, short lectures, etc.) Use speech- making techniques and presentation strategies to give effective presentations Participate in and lead group discussions Total Hours: 50 Theory (Lecture) Hours: 50
