BI 101 — General Biology: Ecology and Biodiversity
An introductory lab science course intended for majors in disciplines other than the biological sciences. Topics presented include ecological principles, biodiversity, and impact of human activities on the environment. Additionally the course is designed to help students discover the applications of science to their everyday lives, as well as provide elements of critical thinking. Different sections of this course may emphasize different themes as indicated by the subtitles. Examples include: Environmental Issues, Oregon Ecology, Marine Biology, and Marine Biology for Education Majors or General Biology. Students may select the theme that interests them most, but the course may be used only once to meet graduation requirements. Biology 101, 102, and 103 need not be taken in numerical order. Recommended: Variable and Linear Equations, college-level reading and writing strongly recommended. This course includes a laboratory component.
