Students will learn skills and strategies for listening more effectively, reading with greater fluency, and communicating effectively in speaking and writing. Topics may include Personal Information, Education, Getting a Job, Money Matters, and Health. NRS Low Beginning (LCC ESOL Level 1) Reading 184-196 / Listening 182-191 (in LCC’s placement system this would read as ESL 1 / ELL 1) Low Beginning - intended for students with beginning English-language skills, literate in their native language, and some familiarity with basic written and spoken English (know the alphabet, recognize basic phrases, able to form and write simple sentences with errors in grammar, spelling, and mechanics. Course exit - form basic sentences orally and in writing using present, present progressive, simple past, and simple future tenses. Respond to basic questions and directions.
