SOC 215 — Social Media & Society
In this course we trace the historical development of the internet and the creation of various social media platforms. We study the impact of the internet and social media on various parts of U.S. society, including friendships, romantic relationships, political participation, educational attainment, and economic opportunity. In this course we also review how the Internet impacts the experience of race, gender, and class during both on- and offline interaction. Lastly, we learn about research methods for studying online communities and spaces. Prerequisites: SOC 101 or 102 or 201
