This course focuses on the study of blood and blood forming tissues. It is an important area of the clinical laboratory as the information gained from Hematology tests can be used to aid in the diagnosis of many conditions such as leukemia and anemia. Topics covered are study of blood cell development, red blood cells (quantitative and qualitative), recognition of normal and abnormal red cell morphology, normal white cell morphology, alterations present in disease, studies of anemias, and tests employed in the hematology and coagulation laboratory. 2 credits
