MATH 251 — MATH ANALYSIS FOR STEM MAJORS
4.00 Units (Lec 4 Hrs) Transfer Credit: CSU, UC Advisory: Successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or equivalent or higher or placement into transfer-level math/ quantitative reasoning course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or equivalent or higher or placement into transfer-level math/quantitative reasoning course This innovative course is designed for STEM majors and provides a modern treatment of mathematical concepts and methods needed for success in the calculus sequence and beyond. Topics include the theory of functions, algebro-geometric analysis, polynomi - als, rational functions and asymptotic analysis, exponential and logarithmic functions, and analytic geometry. Students will learn about the relevance, utility, and limitations of modern computa - tional resources for mathematical analysis while exploring the top - ics above. The techniques and practices investigated in the course will be motivated by contemporary interpretations and implementa - tions of mathematical theory in STEM fields.
