ENG 1145 - Introduction to Technical Writing ENG 1145 - Introduction to Technical Writing 3 Credits Introduces students to developing, writing, and presenting information in technical settings, including the use of graphics to enhance visual appearance and usability. Students will work on a variety of assignments, including writing and revising technical reports and articles, procedures, and mechanism descriptions. Students will explore options for using technology to convey information efficiently and appropriately. Emphasis is on audience analysis, effective design, and clear, concise, accurate expression. One of these two: EAP 0099, ENG 0099 (Minimum grade: 1.67 GPA Equivalent) And 2. Any one of these three: READ 0093, READ 0094, READ 0099 OR ENG 1108 Major Content Areas Standard usage; reviewing and applying standards for formal English, which may include employing the principles of the Plain English Movement where appropriate. Communicating technical information in the workplace - communications as part of a problem-solving process.Structural and style elements of technical communication - developing a readable style for technical information.Graphic display of information, including special graphics features of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other graphics software.Specific document types: technical reports/articles, proposals, instructions, mechanism descriptions, and organizational diagrams.
