DMS205 — Spec Sono Popul & Exam I

3.0 HR. (OC) Prerequisite: Department approval. This course expands on the ultrasound students’ skills and knowledge by gaining an understanding of basic superficial structures and other specialized imaging exams commonly performed in the ultrasound department. Neonatal and pediatric applications, as well as breast specializations in sonography will be presented. Additionally, this course provides the sonography student with a foundation in the basic concepts of patient care. Students will be prepared to employ written and oral communication, patient assessment, safety, and transfer skills, proper body mechanics, infection control strategies, emergency procedures. In addition, a comprehensive review of core scanning protocols in preparation for clinical practice will be completed. Two lecture and two lab hours per week.
