AUTO243 — Auto Fixed Operations

4 HR. (OC) Prerequisite: Department approval. This course is designed to provide an overview of the Automotive Industry. The course will examine employment opportunities and job requirements within the sales, service, and parts department of independent shops, mass-merchandisers, vehicle service departments, and franchised dealerships. The course will expose students to what it takes to operate an automotive related business beyond repairing vehicles. Local dealers, shop owners, and their technicians will be used to help the students gain the required knowledge to become successful technicians. Emphasis will be placed on effective communication, facilities, labor cost, labor rates and parts acquisition, accounting, warranty, hiring practices, and supervision of personnel. Two lecture hours per week.
