Licensure prepare themselves to teach in one additional discipline. The Mississippi Department of Education requires 21 semester hours of prefix-specific courses with a grade of “C” or better. Some of the common supplemental endorsement areas are English, Communication, Social Studies, Mathematics, and General Science. Enrollment in a minimum of 15 hours each semester is recommended for eligibility for state aid, institutional scholarships, and the tuition break. Education Pathway Secondary Education Pathway Physics General Core Hours 35 hours *Recommended Courses for Humanities and Social/Behavioral Science within the 35 General Core Hours: PSY 1513 General Psychology, SOC 2113 Introduction to Sociology, History Elective, and Literature Elective *Recommended Courses for Natural Science with Lab within the 35 Core Hours: CHE 1214 & CHE 1224 General Chemistry I & II 1323 Trigonometry (if placement score requires) prior to enrolling in MAT 1613 Calculus I. These students are advised to take these courses in the summer before their freshmen year in order to complete the Calculus sequence before transferring.
